Biography
Soprano Elizabeth Baldwin has been praised as “ferociously talented” by the San Francisco Examiner. Upcoming engagements include Ms. Baldwin's house and role debut at Municipal de Santiago Opera Nacional de Chile in the title role of Norma.
Recent engagements include: Sieglinde in Die Walküre with the Miami Music Festival's Wagner Institute, Verdi's Macbeth in the role of Lady Macbeth with both the Opera Company of Middlebury and NYC's Loft Opera as well as her debut with Dallas Opera in their concert entitled Verdi & Co, featuring scenes from Rigoletto, La Traviata and Aïda. Other recent highlights include her return to Chautauqua Opera as Tatiana in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, the title role of Puccini’s Tosca with Opera San Jose, Kentucky Opera and the Boston Youth Symphony, the title role in Strauss’ Ariadne auf Naxos with Opera Theater of Pittsburgh, Amelia in Verdi’s Un Ballo in Maschera with the Boston Youth Symphony, and she joined the roster of the San Francisco Symphony to cover the role of Ellen Orford in Britten’s Peter Grimes, a role which she had sung previously at Chautauqua Opera.
As a member of San Francisco Opera’s Merola Program she performed excerpts from Boito’s Mefistofele and Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress at the Schwabacher Summer Concert and excerps from Verdi’s Il Corsaro and Puccini’s La Rondine on the Merola Grand Finale Concert.
On the concert stage, Ms. Baldwin has been heard recently in Verdi's Requiem with the Alabama Symphony Orchestra, Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 with the Akron Symphony, and Strauss’ Vier Letzte Lieder with the Denver Philharmonic Orchestra. She was also honored to return to her home state as special guest artist with Toledo Opera on their annual gala concert. An active recitalist with a deep passion for lieder, Ms. Baldwin's most recent collaborations include recitals with the Ravinia Music Festival and the Tanglewood Music Festival.
Ms. Baldwin was a National Semi-Finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions; Grand Prize winner in the Sullivan Foundation Competition and the Nicholas Loren Vocal Competition; First Prize winner in the National Orpheus Vocal Competition, The National Opera Association Competition, The Heida Hermanns International Voice Competition and the Mildred Miller International Vocal Competition. She has also been awarded numerous grants from operatic organizations including the Licia Albanese Puccini Foundation, the Giulio Gari Foundation and the Schulyer Foundation for Career Bridges.
